LCCC Falls To Owens Community College

April 15, 2025 - - Lorain County Community College faced off against Owens Community College in a pair of doubleheaders at The Pipe Yard this weekend. While the Commodores dropped all four games to a strong Owens squad, ranked No. 10 in NJCAA DIII) there were encouraging moments as the Commodores battled the Express early on in games one and two on Saturday evening in Lorain.

 

Game 1 (April 12, 2025 - The Pipe Yard, Lorain)

The Commodores came out swinging in the opener, putting up a four-run first inning to take an early 4–1 lead. Travis Gentry (Huntsville, Ala./Huntsville HS) sparked the offense by reaching base twice and scoring two runs. Jackson Frame led the team with a 2-RBI double, while Nick Schuster (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) and Joey Kulwicki (Grafton, Ohio/Midview HS) each added RBIs to complete the big inning.

 

Schuster also started on the mound for LCCC, tossing 4 innings and striking out one batter. Yannick Kiss (Bad Homberg, Germany/Phillip-Reis Schule) provided 3 innings of relief, striking out two.

 

Despite Owens' late offensive surge, LCCC kept battling, adding another run in the fifth.

 

Game 2 (April 12, 2025 - The Pipe Yard, Lorain)

Kian Ortiz (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) provided the spark for the Commodores in Game 2, scoring an inside the park home run in center field fourth inning that scored Luke Decker (Elyria, Ohio/Midview HS) and Jackson Frame (Newcastle, Australia/Callaghan HS) and cut the Owens lead to 5-3. Ortiz finished with three RBIs, while Schuster and Gentry chipped in with one RBI each.

 

Decker, Frame, and Kiss also had hits in the game, with Kiss lacing a double to the gap. Overall, LCCC recorded 9 hits, continuing their consistent approach at the plate.

 

On the mound, Giovanni Crawford (Reno, Nevado/Earl Wooster HS) and ReDon "TJ" Jones III (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/Cornerstone Christian) split pitching duties.

 

Game 3 (April 13, 2025 – Owens Community College)

LCCC put up four runs in the third game of the series behind steady bats from Kulwicki, who had 2 RBIs, and Jacob Sanders (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia HS), who crossed the plate once and swiped a base. Frame stayed hot, picking up another hit and an RBI, while Gentry showed patience at the plate, scoring a run.

 

Kiss got the start and recorded two strikeouts across 3.2 innings of work. Tyler DiLuciano followed in relief.

 

Game 4 (April 13, 2025 – Owens Community College)

LCCC kept fighting through the final game, with Jackson Frame leading the way at the plate, picking up a hit and an RBI while scoring a run. Gentry and Ortiz each contributed a hit, with Ortiz scoring once. Kulwicki also reached base and added to his RBI total for the series.

 

Schuster and Kiss pitched in the series finale, combining to hold Owens scoreless for the first two innings before Owens broke through in the middle frames.
