Commodores Overcome Late Lakeland Rally to Win Seventh Straight Game, 101-90

November 29, 2017 -- With  six players scoring in double figures -- led by freshman guard Oscar Dorsey (pictured) with a team-high 22 and sophomore guard Jake Schultz with 20 -- the Lorain County Community College men's basketball team extended its winning streak to seven games (7-0) with a 101-90 victory over Lakeland CC on Wednesday night, November 29.

The Commodores led the entire game, but after building a 19-point lead at 83-64 with 6:30 to play, Lakeland made a late run with pressure and speed to come within four at 94-90 with 1:30 remaining.  But LCCC maintained its composure and sophomore forward Mike Rell scored four big points on a free throw and a driving three-point play to give the Commodores some breathing room, 98-90, with 36 seconds to play.

Dorsey scored his personal season-high 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-4 three-pointers and 3-for-3 from the foul line, along with 5 rebounds and 2 steals.  Schultz -- last week's conference Player of the Week -- scored his personal season-high 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 3-of-6 three's, plus 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 block.

""Jake played tough the entire game," Head Coach Marty Eggleston said.  "He was consistent and attacked the rim.  Oscar is usually the quickest guy on the floor and he put pressure on their top scorers," Eggleston added.

Freshman guard Kevin Miller, Jr., also tallied a personal season-high with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting plus 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals.   Freshman forward Jatee Dudley also scored 13 points, grabbed 5 rebounds with 1 steal and 1 block.  Rell contributed 10 points, 7 assists, 3 steals and 2 rebounds.  Freshman guard Montez Day rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points, 4 assists, 2 caroms and a steal.

LCCC shot 52% for the game with Lakeland right behind at 49%.  Jeramie Burge led Lakeland and all scorers with 24 points and a game-high 8 rebounds. "Lakeland is talented,"Eggleston commented. "You can expect good things from them in the future."

LCCC takes its unblemished record to Edison CC this Saturday, December 2, for a 3 p.m. game.
