Ice Cold Second Half Dooms Commodores; Lose 65-52 to Terra State

January 18, 2023 - - Lorain County Community College men's basketball team lost to Terra State Community College on Wednesday evening, 65-52.

After narrowly escaping the Titans at home last Saturday, 76-73, LCCC had picked up right where they left off Wednesday night.  They only shot 41% from the field but found themselves up seven points after Casey Kelley (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS) found Jayden Roberts (Wellington, Ohio/Wellington HS) for a 20-foot jumper as time expired to give the Commodores a 33-26 lead at halftime.

However, that would be the high point for LCCC as Terra State used a 19-6 run after the break to push ahead of the Commodores and hold the lead for good down the stretch.

Leading in scoring for LCCC was Lem Payne (Philadelphia, Pa./Mount Pleasant HS) with 16.  Payne was the main reason the Commodores were ahead in the first half.  The sophomore attacked the basket relentlessly, getting to the line three times going 5-for-6 and 3-for-4 from the field for 11 first-half points.

Also scoring in double figures for the Commodores were freshman Roberts with 10 and Brandon Fisher (Strongsville, Ohio/Columbia HS) with 11.  Roberts fished with a team-high six rebounds.

LCCC (7-12, 1-7) returns home this Saturday for another conference match up with Edison State Community College at 1 p.m. inside the Ewing Activity Center Gymnasium.  The Commodores lost to the Chargers, 107-100, in overtime on December 3, 2022 in Piqua, Ohio.
