
Commodores Dominate JV Pioneers from Malone University, 101-63
November 12, 2022 - - The Lorain County Community College men's basketball team eclipsed the century mark for the second game in a row as they defeated the Malone University JV squad in dominating fashion, 101-63.
Four Commodores had double digit scoring afternoons with Jayden Roberts (Wellington, Ohio/Wellington HS) leading the way with 17 points on 7-for-7 shooting. The freshman also had four rebounds and one block.
LCCC was also boosted by another newcomer for this season, Brandon Fisher (Strongsville, Ohio/Columbia HS), who followed his 16-point performance against Westmoreland County Community College last Sunday with another one against the Pioneers. Fisher also pulled down 11 rebounds, had two assists, three steals, and two blocks to keep his sizzling start for the Commodores going.
Quante May (Cleveland, Ohio/Horizon Science Academy) had 13 points to go along with his six rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. May put the exclamation point on the Commodore first ten minutes of play with an ally-oop dunk from teammate Jason Becka (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick HS) to extend the LCCC lead to 28-11 forcing the Pioneers into a timeout. Austin Copen (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS) also dropped 10 points and had four rebounds.
LCCC took a 22-point lead into halftime and extended it to 38 with Fishers last bucket in the final seconds of the second half.
Defense was another catalyst for the Commodores victory as they forced the Pioneers into 19 turnovers, gathered 13 steals as a team, and limited Malone to 32% shooting in the contest.
The Commodores will return to the hardwood next Friday when they welcome the Wayne County Community College Wildcats to the Ewing Activities Center Gymnasium. Game starts at 7 p.m. following the conclusion of the LCCC women's basketball team's game against Malone University JV which starts at 5 p.m.
