Three Commodores Receive LCCC End Of Year Honors

May 15, 2024 - - Matthew Bowman, Madison Palmer, and Jaden Nestor-Fox earned end of the year honors at the Lorain County Community College Honors & Awards Convocation on May 1st. 

Jack Zagrans Award - Awarded to a male athlete who displays sportsmanship, athletic ability, and has an exemplary grade point average.

Matthew Bowman, Men's Cross Country

Matthew Bowman excelled as a runner and as a student during the 2023-24 academic year. For the second season in a row, Bowman was a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DIII All-American runner with a 6th place finish at the NJCAA National Championships in Huntsville, Ala. in November 2023. He helped the men's cross country squad finish 6th as a team among DIII schools.Before placing at Nationals, the sophomore from North Ridgeville, Ohio won the NJCAA Division III Region 12 Individual Champion Award given to the runner who finishes first in their region's championship earning himself a spot of the Region 12 All-Region Team in the process.As a student, Bowman holds a 3.5 GPA and is a member of the United States Track & Field/CrossCountry Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team, the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) All-Academic team (Fall 2023), and the LCCC Athletic Director's High Honor Roll (Fall 2023).

 

 

George Day Award - Awarded to a female athlete who displays sportsmanship, athletic ability, and has an exemplary grade point average.
Madison Palmer

Madison Palmer, Women's Cross Country

Madison Palmer had a spectacular freshmen season for the Lorain County Community College women's cross country team with a 4.0 grade point average and All-American distinction during the cross country season in the fall of 2023.  Palmer finished 5th out of 98 runners at the NJCAA Nationals in Huntsville, Ala. helping the Commodore women's team to a 10th place team finish.At the Region 12 DIII Championships, she placed first to win the Region 12 DIII Individual Championship as she led the women's team to a first place finish in November 2023 and was a member of the Region 12 DIII All-Region team.Academically, Palmer was a member of the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team, Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) All-Academic team (Fall 2023), and the LCCC Athletic Director's High Honor Roll (Fall 2023).

 

 

Cheryl Allen Sportsmanship Award - Cheryl was a former student athlete at LCCC who was tragically killed in a motor cycle accident when she was only 22 years old. After her death, the college started giving out an annual Cheryl Allen Sportsmanship award to a student-athlete at LCCC in memory of Cheryl. The award goes to a player who exemplifies sportsmanship at all times whether on or off the court/field, both to their teammates and opponents and that they also have a very good academic background.
Jaden Nestor-Fox

Jaden Nestor-Fox, Baseball

As a student, Jaden Nestor-Fox accumulated a 3.4 GPA and is a tremendous baseball player for the LCCC Commodores. As the starting second basemen the last two seasons, the offense starts with him every game.Jaden hit the ground running his sophomore season, as he reached base with either a base hit or a walk for the first 17 games of the 2024 season. He is one of the top hitters in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) and has excelled in the classroom by making the OCCAC All-Academic Team during the fall semester of 2023. As a teammate, Jaden remains positive in all situations.  As one of the baseball team's leaders, he encourages his teammates and inspires them to play better.  During his freshman season he was named the team's MVP.
