Robert Rogers (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) Named SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week (Feb. 23 – March 1, 2025) Robert Rogers continues his dominant start to the NJCAAE spring season, securing two more wins to improve to 4-0. He maintained his perfect 12-0 round record with victories over Muskegon Community College and Terra State Community College in Tier 1 Premier Series play.

Rashaud Finley (Cleveland, Ohio/Bard HS) is the SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week for the week of February 16-22, 2025, after leading the Commodores in scoring during the NJCAA DIII Region Championship against Owens Community College. Finley delivered a standout performance, dropping a game-high 29 points while shooting an impressive 62.5% (10-16) from the field and 50% (4-8) from three-point range. He also went 5-7 (71.4%) from the free-throw line.

SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week for Feb. 9-15

Abigail Schmitz (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS) is the SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week for the week of February 9-15, 2025 after a pair of stellar performances on the court. Against Owens Community College on February 13, Schmitz scored 28 points while shooting 41.9% (13-31) from the field. She also secured 13 rebounds. Additionally, she contributed five assists and one steal in the closely contested 67-62 loss. Schmitz continued her impressive run on February 15 against Edison State, leading her team with 20 points, hitting four shots from deep in the process. On the defensive end, she grabbed seven rebounds and dished out three assists.

Lorain County Community College standout center Ally Winnen has been named the LCCC Subway Marketplace Athlete of the Week after delivering record-breaking performances in back-to-back games against Bryant & Stratton College and Clark State College.

Dennis Pettis Jr. (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) is the Lorain County Community College SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week for the week of January 26-February 1, 2025. Pettis, a Lorain native and Lorain High School graduate, delivered back-to-back strong performances, averaging 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists over the two-game stretch.

Chloe Meng (Elyria, Ohio/First Baptist Christian) is the Lorain County Community College SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week for the week of January 19-25, 2025. Meng delivered the decisive play in the Commodores' thrilling 70-68 victory over the Clark State College Eagles on Saturday, January 25, 2025. Following a timeout, teammate Abigail Schmitz executed a perfect inbounds pass from the baseline, finding a wide-open Meng who drained the go-ahead three-pointer with just eight seconds left on the clock, securing the win for LCCC.

All Winnen (Lorain, Ohio/Elyria Catholic HS) is the LCCC SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 5-11. Across the week, Winnen averaged 25.7 points, 19 rebounds, and 3 assists per game while shooting a 60.8% from the field.

SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week for Dec. 29-Jan. 4

Lorain County Community College’s freshman guard, Dennis Pettis Jr. (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS), earns this week’s SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week (Dec. 29 - Jan.4) honors after a standout performance in the Commodores' hard-fought 92-80 loss to Butler County Community College (PA) on January 4th. Pettis was a key offensive weapon for the Commodores, leading the team with 18 points in the contest. Pettis connected on 6 field goals, including 6-of-8 effort from the free-throw line. Beyond scoring, Pettis made his presence felt on the boards, pulling down 6 rebounds (1 offensive, 5 defensive) in 32 minutes of play. He also contributed with 1 assist and 4 steals.

Toriano Goodwin (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) has been named the Lorain County Community College SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 22-28, 2024. Goodwin delivered an impressive performance for the Commodores off the bench against Kent State Tuscarawas on December 27, 2024. He scored 12 points, shooting 5-for-10 from the field and 2-for-3 from the free-throw line. In addition to his scoring, Goodwin contributed 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 assists, and 1 steal in the contest, despite the team’s loss to the Golden Eagles. This season, Goodwin has also made his presence felt defensively, ranking 16th in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) with 7 blocks.

SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week for Dec. 8-14

Gabriel Beckstrom (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) has been named the Lorain County Community College SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 8-14, 2024. Beckstrom excelled in the NJCAAE Tier 3 Playoffs for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 1v1 competition, winning four consecutive matches before falling in the semi-final round to Heartland Community College, the eventual Tier 3 champion. The semi-final match was a nail-biter, going the full five rounds, with Beckstrom rallying from a 2-0 deficit to force the decider.

Ally Winnen (Lorain,Ohio/Elyria Catholic HS) is the Lorain County Community College SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 1-7, 2024. Winnen, a sophomore center, earned her second OCCAC Player of the Week honor this week after an outstanding performance against Lakeland Community College. Winnen scored a season-high 34 points, grabbed 16 rebounds (10 offensive), and contributed two blocks, a steal, and an assist in the Commodores' first conference win of the season. She leads the OCCAC in rebounds per game (14), total blocks (15), and field goal percentage (52.6) and ranks second in points per game (17).

Abigail Schmitz (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS) is the Lorain County Community College SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week for the week of Nov. 24-30, 2024. Schmitz had back-to-back double digit scoring games for the Commodores, first scoring 15 points on 7-for-11 shooting against Wheeling University’s JV team on Sunday, Nov. 24, and then scored 17 against Schoolcraft College two days later on Nov. 26. Against the Ocelots, she scored 10 points from the free throw line. Schmitz is third in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference in scoring per game with 16.8 points per game.

Deonte Benejan (Queens, N.Y./Lorain HS) is the Lorain County Community College SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week for the week of Nov. 17-23, 2024. Benejan helped the Commodores get their first win of the 2024-25 season on Nov. 20, 2024 against Bryant & Stratton College. Before getting injured late in the second half Benejan scored 23 points and had seven assists against just two turnovers against the Bobcats. Two days later, he dropped another 20-point performance against the Wayne County Community College Wildcats in Detroit, Mich. Benejan is fourth in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference in points per game with 20.7.

Colby Cabrera (Amherst, Ohio/Marion L. Steele HS) finished the NJCAAE regular season with a perfect 7-0 (28-0 in rounds played) record after he dispatched Lackawanna College in a 4-0 sweep in Tier 2 Contender Series play to finish the season undefeated. With that win, Cabrera earned the No. 1 seed in the NJCAAE Playoffs.

Dennis Pettis Jr. (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) is the Lorain County Community College SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week for the week of Nov. 3-9 after the freshman averaged 18 points per game and shot over 40% from the field in two contests.Pettis Jr. scored 14 against the Community College of Allegheny County on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, with three rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Four days later, on Saturday, November 9 against No. 7 DIII Sandhills Community College, he scored 22 points and had six rebounds, four blocks, and three steals. In five games this season, Pettis Jr. is averaging 15 points per game, 3.2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2.5 steals.

SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week for Oct. 27-Nov. 2

Ally Winnen (Lorain, Ohio/Elyria Catholic HS) is the Lorain County Community College SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 27-Nov. 2, 2024. Winnen only needed one game to make her mark on the LCCC record book. The sophomore pulled down 22 rebounds in her season debut against the Walsh University JV team last Friday. The 14 offensive rebounds she had against the JV Cavaliers set a new LCCC record, passing Angel Blakely’s record of 11 set in 2017. Lost in her dominate rebounding performance was her scoring as she dropped 20 points against Walsh with two blocks. The following day against Kent State-Tuscarawas, she had 13 rebounds and scored eight points, had five assists, and three blocks.
