Baseball Gets Swept By Lakeland CC Over the Weekend

April 9, 2023 - - The Lorain County Community College Commodores suffered four losses over the weekend at the hands of the Lakeland Community College Lakers in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play.

LCCC lost the closest game in its first contest against Lakers on Friday, 5-4, at Mercy Health Stadium in Avon, Ohio after leading for most of the game. Jaden Nestor-Fox (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) crossed home plate in each of the first two innings.  One of the runs came courtesy of Mason Shultz's (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) double in the second inning that scored him and sophomore Rocky Houston (Grafton, Ohio/Keystone HS).

The Commodores nursed a 4-3 lead until the seventh when Lakeland would plate two runs on starter Dan Arth (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS).  Arth went the distance for LCCC with five strikeouts against three walks. 

Cody DeVos (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay HS) pitched in game two and finished with five strikeouts in the Commodores 12-0 loss.  He held Lakeland in check for the most part, limiting them to three runs in the first four innings before the Lakers knocked him out in the fifth inning when the Lakers plated 12 runs.

LCCC fell to Lakeland again in both games in Kirtland on Saturday, 8-2 in game one and 11-0 in the second game.  Houston scored both runs in game one going 1-for-3 with a double.
