Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader vs Butler Pioneers

April 19, 2023 - - The Commodores dished out two mercy rule wins against the Butler County Community College Pioneers in Wednesday afternoon's doubleheader in Butler, Pa., 16-3 and 14-4.

Caleb Shinsky (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) and Dan Arth (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS) both picked up wins for Loran County Community College with Shinsky going all five innings of game one striking out four batters and allowing just two earned runs.  Arth struck out four in 4.1 innings pitched with Julian Martinez (Grafton, Ohio/Midview HS) relieving Arth the rest of the way.

LCCC pounced for four runs in the first inning, picked up three more in fourth, before a nine run knockout punch in the fifth removed all doubt.  Six players turned in multi-hit games, part of a 20-hit effort put forth by the Commodores in game one.

Mason Shultz (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) and Jonathan St. Peter (Amherst, Ohio/Marion L. Steele HS) turned in perfect days at the plate with Shultz going 4-for-4 with four RBI and St. Peter going 3-for-3 with two runs scored.

Austin Isenhart (Elyria, Ohio/Midview HS) homered for LCCC, part of his two hit day with three runs batted in. Jaden Nestor-Fox (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) and Rocky Houston (Grafton, Ohio/Keystone HS) each had three hits with a pair of RBI while Ben DeSimone (Grafton, Ohio/Midview HS) drove in a run with two hits.

In game two, the Commodore scored in every inning with 14 runs coming on just eight hits as LCCC had 12 walks as a team (Nestor-Fox and Isenhart each had three walks a piece). DeSimone was the only Commodore to have a multi-hit game in game two with a run scored and four RBI. 

LCCC plays host to Terra State Community College Friday afternoon in an Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Region 12 DIII match up with the Titans.  First pitch is at 1 p.m. at Sports Force Parks in Sandusky, Ohio.
