Commodores Fall to Terra State Over the Weekend

April 23, 2023 - - Lorain County Community College baseball dropped four games to the Terra State Community College over the weekend.

Cody DeVos (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay HS) put together another decent outing for the Commodores with seven strikeouts through six innings of work.  DeVos cruised through the first four innings unscathed thanks to his arm and his glove.

The Titans erupted for five runs in fifth when they loaded the bases and struck for a grand slam one batter after a possible double play ball was hit off the infield umpire, killing the play and allowing Terra's batter to advance to first safely. Jaden Nestor-Fox (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS), Ben DeSimone (Grafton, Ohio/Midview HS), and Sam Mullenax (Middleburg Heights, Ohio/Berea-Midpark HS) all recorded hits for the Commodores in game one.

The Commodores lost game two Friday afternoon 10-0 again being limited to just three hits against the Titans. Alex Lloyd (Avon Lake, Ohio/Open Door Christian HS) started game two for LCCC going five innings with two strikeouts. Mike Flachbart (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) relieved Lloyd in the sixth, recording one strikeout.

Saturday was much of the same for LCCC, falling to Terra 11-1 and 5-3.  The Commodores took the lead in game one on Saturday in the first only to give up three runs in the bottom half of the inning.  Game two started with Mason Shultz (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) getting the Commodores on the board with a three run home run off Terra State pitcher, and brother, Cody Shultz (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS).

Unfortunately for the LCCC, that would be the last runs they would score in game two as Terra tied the game up in the third with three runs and then scored twice in the fifth inning to take the lead for good.

LCCC travels to Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Mich. this week for a doubleheader against the Ocelots on Tuesday before hosting them on Friday at Sports Force Park in Sandusky.
