Commodores Split with Kent State Club Baseball

May 1, 2023 - - Lorain County Community College baseball split a pair of games against Kent State University's Club squad on Sunday, winning 8-4 in the first game and falling 11-1 in the second contest.  Game one featured a comeback victory for the Commodores, who scored five runs in the sixth and picked up a much needed win.

The Commodores were guided to victory by Caleb Shinsky (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) who pitched 5.1 innings and had eight strikeouts. Nick Morgan (Grafton, Ohio/Midview HS) came on in relief and struck out two batters to pick up the win thanks to LCCC's late rally.

All batters in the lineup recorded a hit for LCCC, including multi-hit games from Jaden Nestor-Fox (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) and Rocky Houston (Grafton, Ohio/Keystone HS).  Houston got the Commodores on the board when he singled home Nestor-Fox, who started the bottom of the first with a triple. Houston's RBI would be the first of four on the afternoon.

Unfortunately for the Commodores, that momentum did not carry over into the next game as Kent capitalized on four Commodore errors to score 11 runs.  Mason Shultz (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) pitched for LCCC in game two, striking out 10 batters in six innings pitched.

Ben DeSimone (Grafton, Ohio/Midview HS) scored the Commodores only run in the seventh.

LCCC travels to Delta College on Tuesday afternoon for their final regular season games of the season before the start of the NJCAA Region XII DIII Tournament held on May 10-12 at Sports Force Parks.
