Commodores Split With Hocking College After Comeback Win In Game One

Game 1

LCCC used late game heroics in game one against Hocking College to defeat the Hawks, 12-11.  Mason Shultz (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) scored the winning run from third base on an error by Hocking's pitcher when he attempted to pick off ReDon (TJ) Jones III (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/Cornerstone Christian HS) at first base.

Before Schultz got the win for the Commodores, he tied the game up at 11-11 with a bases-clearing triple.

LCCC got down 4-0 early but came alive in the third inning when Jaden Nestor-Fox (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) and Jordan Streamo (Girard, Ohio/Niles McKinley HS) scored.  Hocking continued building their lead by adding two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to go up 7-2.

Shultz and Hunter Cahl (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) scored in the bottom half of the fifth to cut the Hawks lead to 7-4.  Hocking looked as though they had put the Commodores away with four runs in the sixth to take a commanding 11-4 lead but that's when the Commodore offense started to heat up.

Yaniel Valentin (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) doubled home Matt Roesel (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) after he led the inning off with a single. Nestor-Fox singled home Valentin two batters later and then scored on Shultz's base hit after Cahl reached on a fielder's choice. Jones pinch hit in the sixth and scored Cahl on a groundout to third with one out.

After Streamo reached first on an error in the bottom of the seventh, Nestor-Fox and Cahl singled to set the stage for Shultz's big triple to tie the game.

Cahl pitched four innings for LCCC and was relieved by Dan Arth (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS), Joseph Mealey (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS), and Valentin who combined for three innings.

Game 2

LCCC was limited to just one hit (Nestor-Fox) as the Hawks scored in every inning to win game two, 14-0, in five innings.
