Shultz Goes Deep Twice While Skvor Hurls Seven Scoreless To Split With Community Christian

Game 1

LCCC got their first shutout win of the season defeating Community Christian College 9-0, thanks to the heavy hitting of Mason Shultz (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) and lights out pitching from Silas Skvor (Oberlin, Ohio/Firelands HS).

Shultz got LCCC on the board with a two-run homer to right field after Jaden Nestor-Fox (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) singled to start the bottom half of the first.  Nestor-Fox drove in a run in the second inning with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Joseph Mealey (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) from third.

The Commodores continued to get runs in the fourth.  Nestor Fox walked with the bases loaded which scored Joey Kulwicki (Grafton, Ohio/Midview HS).  Hunter Cahl (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) singled in the next at-bat to score Tyler DiLuciano (Cleveland, Ohio/Holy Name HS) and then Matt Roesel (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) reached on a fielder's choice which scored Yaniel Valentin (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) from third.

After Cahl doubled to score Nestor-Fox from first base in the bottom of the sixth, Shultz added two more runs with his second two-run bomb of the game to right field.

While LCCC was scoring runs, Skvor kept the Lions off the scoreboard with a complete game shutout allowing just three hits with eight strikeouts. He got out of a bases-loaded jam in the second inning when Kian Ortiz (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) picked off CCC's runner at first base with one out and then struck out the batter at the plate to end the threat. Skvor worked perfect innings in the fifth and sixth.

CCC's only chance to score happened in the top of the seventh.  With two outs and a runner at second, the Lions singled to Kulwicki in center who threw out the runner heading home to seal the shutout.

Game 2

As good as game one went offensively for the Commodores, game two was the opposite as LCCC was held scoreless despite a few chances to get on the board.

LCCC stranded runners in the first, second, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings making for a frustrating game two against CCC's starting pitcher who also threw a complete game shutout.

Cahl started for LCCC in game two and got off to a rough start, walking two batters with the bases loaded in the first inning, giving CCC a 2-0 lead.  After that, the freshmen settled in to hurl a complete game with seven strikeouts.
