Esports Recap: Week of Nov. 14-17

The Lorain County Community College Esports program continued their fall season last week as the Commodores Tier 3 (Open Series) teams entered week 20 while Tier 2 (Contender Series) teams competed in week 7 to wrap up their regular season.

This week will be a makeup week for players that missed matches during the regular season so the playoff picture still hasn't come into focus.  However, several members of the Commodores Esports squad are looking at opportunities to play extra games this year.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - 1v1 – Best of 5

The Commodores Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team picked up three individual match wins last week with Chandler Brown (Elyria, Ohio/LCCC Early College), William Klein (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS), and Jacob Brown (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) all getting wins for LCCC to wrap up the Tier 2 regular season. Colby Cabrera (Amherst, Ohio/Marion L. Steele HS) is making up his match this week.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 1v1 - Best of 7

Robert Rogers (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) wrapped up his Tier 2 regular season with a win against SUNY Corning Community College to finish 5-2.  He currently sits in 6th place after 7 weeks.

Valorant – 5v5 - Best of 3

The Tier 2 squad won their third straight match to close out the regular season with a 2-1 win over Hudson Valley Community College. At 5-2, that squad finishes 7th in the standings.

Madden 24 – 1v1 - Best of 3

Derek Morta (Lorain, Ohio/Ohio Virtual Academy) continued his torrid pace as he won his fourth straight match, this time he defeated Bismarck State College to improve to 11-3 and is currently first among all Tier 3 Madden players.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Crew Battle – 3v3 - Best of 3

LCCC's Super Smash Bros. Crew Battle team got their fifth win of the season with a 2-1 win over Danville Area Community College to bounce back from a loss last week.

LCCC's Esports team competes in the National Junior College Athletic Association Esports (NJCAAE) which is split into three tiers: Tier 1 - Premier Series, Tier 2 - Contender Series, and Tier 3 - Open Series.  LCCC has players that compete in Tier 2 and Tier 3.  Tier 2 - Contender Series (CS) competition is the mid-level of NJCAAE competition for members with teams made up of eligible students while Tier 3 - Open Series (OS) competition is the open level of NJCAAE competition for members. Participants do not have to meet any Student Eligibility requirements and don't have to play every week.

The Tier 2 season lasts for seven weeks before the playoffs start while the Tier 3 season runs from July to December for a total of 24 weeks which includes the playoffs.
