Rogers Still Alive In NJCAAE Super Smash Bros. Playoffs After First Day

April 16, 2024 - - The National Junior College Athletic Association Esports spring season has wrapped and the Lorain County Community College Esports team has moved into the playoff mode.  Things kicked off on Tuesday night with the 1v1 Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament.  LCCC had eight student-athletes competing on Tuesday and after the dust settled it was Robert Rogers (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) still alive and heading to Round 3 of the Tier 2 Playoffs.

 

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - 1v1 – NJCAAE Playoffs

Rogers won his first match against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in three rounds and then won his second round match up 3-1 to move into the top eight of the winner's bracket.  He will face Finger Lakes Community College in round three tomorrow, Wednesday April 17, 2024 at 6 p.m.

 

William Klein (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) and Colby Cabrera (Amherst, Ohio/Marion L. Steele HS) both lost their first round match ups and moved into the elimination bracket.  Klein was eliminated in the first round while Cabrera advanced to round 2 before getting ousted by Rockland Community College.

 

In Tier 3, which is single elimination, Gabriel Beckstrom (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS), Jason Thomas (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS), and Matthew Coleman (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) picked up wins in round one.  Coleman won his second round match against Catawba Valley Community College before he was swept in round three against Mott Community College.

 

Beckstrom made it to round three after a 4-0 victory against Spoon River College, advanced on a forfeit win in round two before he eliminated by Hinds Community College in the following round.

 

Individual Super Smash Bros. competition continues Wednesday with Rogers, but on Friday LCCC will have two Super Smash Bros. Ultimate teams playing in Crew Battle.
