Commodores Victorious at Sinclair CC, 79-71

The Lorain County Community College men's basketball team received a complete team-effort and double-figures scoring from four players to defeat Sinclair CC, 79-71, on Saturday evening, January 13, in Dayton, Ohio.

Sophomore guard Mike Rell (Parma/Valley Forge) (pictured) and sophomore forward Miles Meredith (Bedford/Bedford) (pictured, lower middle) each scored 12 points and freshman forward Jovon Jones (Cleveland/Faith Baptist) (pictured, lower left) and sophomore guard Jake Schultz (Parma/Heritage Christian) (pictured, lower right) each added 10 points.  LCCC led at the break, 35-30, and 71-61 in the second half before the final eight-point margin.
 
Rell grabbed a team-high six boards in addition to a team-best five assists and a steal.  Meredith,  Jones and Schultz each collected five rebounds.  Jones added an assist and a blocked shot. 
 
Freshman guard Thomas Hronis (North Ridgeville/North Ridgeville) connected on 3-of-4 shots from long range for nine points and picked off two rebounds.  Freshman forward Jatee Dudley (Cleveland/Garfield Heights) made the most of eight minutes off the bench, scoring six points on 2-of-3 shots, four boards and an assist.  Freshman guard Montez Day (Cleveland/JFK) contributed seven points and a pair of caroms.  Sophomore forward Daniel Lott (Brooklyn/Brooklyn) scored six points with a game-high three steals.
 
Sinclair's scoring leader was sophomore forward LiDonta Hicks-Gentry with  game-highs of 19 points and 14 rebounds.
 
"We got the monkey off our back," Head Coach Marty Eggleston stated, referring to the two recent consecutive losses to Tri-C (ranked #1 in NJCAA D-II) and a strong Wayne County (MI) CC NJCAA D-II team.  "Our defense triggered our offense tonight.  It was a back and forth game against a very good opponent," Eggleston added.  
 
Sinclair is now 1-4 in the OCCAC and 9-8 overall.  LCCC improves to 4-1 in league play and 13-2 overall.  The Commodores will host Columbus State on Wednesday night, January 17, at 7:30 p.m.
