Division II Sinclair Community College Tops LCCC in Home Finale

February 23, 2019 - - The Lorain County Community College Men's Basketball team faced a tough task against Division II Sinclair Community College in their final regular-season home contest…a strong team with a talented roster, led by NCAA Division I recruit, Sean McNeil (Union, KY/Cooper).

The Commodores jumped out to an early lead off 7 points from Isaiah Linder (Brooklyn) when the Tartan Pride went to work with aggressive defense and good ball movement…regaining the lead and heading into the locker room with a 43-36 advantage.

Although Lorain did a great job holding McNeil to 9 first half points, he sprang to life in the second half with stellar 3-point shooting and a game-high 32 points. The Commodores managed to cut the lead several times, but each time they scored, the Tartan Pride answered. Sinclair had a final scoring surge late to grab the win with a 101-84 final score.

Lorain Head Coach, Marty Eggleston, praised his team, stating "I'm so proud of our guys for their effort in this game and throughout the season…they have endured many difficult situations and handled it well. I'm excited we start a new season tomorrow and it's just a one game season. We're preparing for our game against Hocking College and the goal is to win, then play for a Regional Championship on Monday night."

Justin Newman (Cincinnati/Robert A. Taft) and Thomas Hronis (North Ridgeville), wrapped up their final home game for LCCC by leading the team with 27 and 20 points, respectively. Newman also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and finished with a double-double to end the regular season. Jacob Marsh (Elyria) contributed 12 points, going 4-8 from downtown.

LCCC finishes the regular season at 13-16 overall and 4-12 in the OCCAC. Sinclair improves to 18-10 for the season and 9-5 in conference play.
