Commodore Men Fall to 20th Ranked Team in NJCAA DII

February 6, 2019 - - The Lorain County Community College Men's Basketball team fell to the conference-leading Cuyahoga Community College Triceratops at home Wednesday, 89-76. Tri-C came into the game as the 20th ranked team in the NJCAA DII.

LCCC was aggressive early, leading the game for over four minutes. The first half also featured multiple lead changes and nearly five minutes of the game being tied. A great effort by Tri-C on getting steals and second chance points resulted in the Commodores falling behind. Tri-C lead at the half 39-29.

Thomas Hronis (North Ridgeville) lead the Commodores with 10 first half points. Justin Newman (Cincinnati/Robert A Taft) lead the team with 4 first half rebounds.

Both teams shot the ball better from the floor in the second half. Lorain's field goal percentage improved by 13.2% in the second half while their 3-point field goal percentage improved by 18.3%. Turnovers and rebounding continued to fall in favor of Tri-C, beating the Commodores on offensive rebounds 16-6. Hronis lead the Commodores with 19 points and 3 steals, while also having 1 assist. Newman played all 40 minutes of the game, collecting 15 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal. Jovon Jones (Elyria/F.B.C.S.) finished with 16 points. Jacob Marsh (Elyria) finished with 15 points after hitting 4 3-point field goals in the second half.

Commodore Head Coach Marty Eggleston said after the game, "They shot the ball exceptionally well from range tonight, but we will keep grinding. We're in a tough conference. We'll be back to work on Saturday night."

LCCC falls to 13-10 overall and 5-6 in conference games. Tri-C is now 17-5 overall and 8-1 in conference games.

The Commodores host Clark State at 3 p.m., Saturday, February 9.
