November 2, 2019 - - The Lorain County Community College Men's Basketball Team kicked off their 2019 season by hosting The Commodore Classic Tournament this weekend. LCCC squared off against Erie Community College Friday night but a strong second-half effort by the Kats propelled them to a 106-79 victory.
Derek Yahnke (pictured; Hilliard/Hilliard Bradley) went 6 of 10 from the field to lead the Commodores with 14 points, grabbed a team-leading nine rebounds and also led with three steals. Alex Wyatt (Brunswick) added 13 points and dished out four assists, while Jacob Marsh (Elyria) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 13 points.
LCCC used aggressive play in game two to chip away at a big Mercyhurst Northeast lead and pull within three in the second half, 50-53. The Saints turned the tides in their favor again, playing lockdown defense and holding the Commodores to just six points on their way to an 80-56 win.
Jaylen Jenkins (Willoughby/Willoughby South) was the only Commodore to finish in double-digits with 16 points. He also led the team with four assists and four steals. Jodeci Crite (Lorain) grabbed eight rebounds and Wyatt had two blocks for LCCC.
The Commodores host Pitt – Titusville at 7 p.m., Thursday, November 14, 2019.
