Chargers Spoil 2023 Opener For Commodores

August 19, 2023 - The Lorain County Community College volleyball team opened up the 2023 campaign with a four-set loss to Edison State Community College (2-0, 2-0) on Saturday (26-24, 20-25, 18-25, 19-25).

Leading the offensive attack for the Commodores (0-1, 0-1) were sophomores Josie Filice (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS) with 18 kills and Abbey Williams (North Ridgeville, Ohio/First Baptist Christian) with 11.

The Commodores came out with a win in the first set, 26-24, aided with runs of four and three straight points to build a cushion as Edison charged back to force OT. That momentum would carry over to the next set and continue over the next three games in the Chargers favor.

As a team, LCCC hit .168 for the match.  Their best hitting game came in the fourth set hitting .250 and committing only three errors.

Reigning Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Libero of the Year Izabel Gallardo-Santo Domingo (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) picked up right where she left off in 2022 with a team-high 32 digs and Maggie Riley (Elyria, Ohio/Midview HS) put up 35 assists to help the Commodore attack.

LCCC will face Lakeland Community College on August 30 inside the Ewing Activities Center Gymnasium. The Commodores won both matches against the Lakers in 2022.  Tickets at the gate are $5 while LCCC Students with ID and children 10 & under get in free.
