Commodores Strand Tying Run Against Delta In Game One; Second Game Washed Out

May 3, 2023 - - The Lorain County Community College Commodores baseball team suffered a close loss to the Delta College Pioneers on Tuesday afternoon, falling 6-5 as they stranded the tying run on second in the final inning. Delta used two 3-run innings to get the win against NJCAA Region XII DIII rival LCCC.

The Commodores scored twice in the first inning only for the Pioneers to score three runs off starter Cody DeVos (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay HS) who struggled to find his command early.  DeVos would record two scoreless frames after the first to go three innings pitched striking out three batters and allowing just two hits.

Dan Arth (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS) relieved DeVos in the fourth inning and similarly got off to a rough start.  The freshman allowed three runs to the Pioneers before he settled in for the fifth and sixth innings to notch five strikeouts.

As a team, the Commodores combined for just five hits but took advantage of Delta's erratic pitching by walking 12 times. Austin Isenhart (Elyria, Ohio/Midview HS) had the only multi-hit game with two hits and two RBI while teammate Sam Mullenax (Middleburg Heights, Ohio/Berea-Midpark HS) also drove in two runs by walking twice with the bases loaded. Jaden Nestor-Fox (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) scored twice for LCCC.

LCCC would plate three runs in the sixth thanks to singles from Nestor-Fox and Isenhart but failed to get Mike Flachbart (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) home from second in the seventh.

Originally scheduled for a doubleheader, Tuesday's second game was cancelled due to weather.  Both teams could meet next week at the NJCAA Region XII DIII Championships held at Sports Force Parks in Sandusky starting on May 10.
