Commodores Take One From Kent State Tuscarawas in Regular Season Finale
Lorain County Community College baseball split its regular season finale doubleheader against Kent State Tuscarawas on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Conotton Valley High School—winning the first game 6–4 before falling 10–7 in the second.
In Game 1, Travis Gentry (Huntsville, Ohio/Huntsville HS) led LCCC at the plate with a three-hit performance, including a triple and three RBIs. Jackson Frame (Newcastle, Australia/Callaghan HS) added two hits and drove in two runs, while Louis Jones (Romulus, Mich./Edsel Ford HS) chipped in with an RBI single.
Trailing the Golden Eagles by two runs heading into the third inning, the Commodores rallied for four runs and added the go-ahead runs in the sixth after Kent State Tuscarawas tied the game in the fifth.
Yaniel Valentin (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) started on the mound, pitching 6.1 innings with two strikeouts. Joey Kulwicki (Grafton, Ohio/Midview HS) recorded the final two outs in relief to pick up the save.
In Game 2, Gentry once again delivered a three-hit performance and added an RBI. Frame, Luke Decker (Elyria, Ohio/Midview HS), and Kulwicki each contributed a hit and two RBIs, while Giovanni Crawford (Reno, Nev./Earl Wooster HS) and Colin McCrone (Lakeland, Ohio/Lakewood HS) also recorded hits.
Despite a strong comeback effort in a back-and-forth contest, the Commodores came up short. LCCC tied the game with three runs in the top of the sixth, but the Golden Eagles responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half. Although LCCC scored in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, they were held scoreless in the seventh and fell 10–7.
ReDon "TJ" Jones III (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/Cornerstone Christian HS) started Game 2, pitching 2.1 innings with two strikeouts. He was followed by Yannick Kiss (Bad Homburg, Germany/Phillip-Reis Schule), who threw 2.0 innings and struck out one. Nick Schuster (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) pitched 0.2 innings, Tyler DiLuciano (Cleveland, Ohio/Holy Cross HS) tossed 0.1 inning, and Kulwicki closed out the game with 0.2 innings and one strikeout.
The Commodores conclude the regular season with an 8–31 record, playing .500 baseball over their final ten games. They now turn their attention to the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 12 Tournament, where they'll face the top-seeded Terra State Community College Titans on Wednesday at noon in a double-elimination format. LCCC enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed.
