
LCCC Valorant Wins Twice While Rogers and Zielinski Stay Undefeated in Mario Kart
October 10, 2024 - - Week 2 of the National Junior College Athletic Association Esports fall season continued on Thursday night with Mario Kart and Valorant competing at the LCCC Esports Practice Facility inside the Campana Center for Ideation and Invention.
Mario Kart 8 – 1v1 – Best-of-Seven
Reigning Tier 2 Spring National Champion Robert Rogers (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS), now playing in the Tier 1 - Premier Series, picked up two more wins on Thursday. The first coming against Marshalltown Community College in six races and then a sweep of Cleveland Community College. He is now 4-0 on the season in Tier 1 play.
Collin Zielinski (North Olmsted, Ohio/North Olmsted HS) kept his perfect record going in Tier 3 – Open Series competition with a sweep against Hudson Valley Community College.
Valorant – 5v5 – Best-of-three
LCCC had three teams competing in Valorant on Thursday, one in Tier 1 and two in Tier 3.
The Tier 1 Valorant team, consisting of Brody Taylor (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS), Kylie Zeman (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS), Tyler Misconish (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville HS), Ethan Stump (Elyria, Ohio/LCCC Early College), and Mason Henderson (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS), took on top-ranked Nova Community College and lost 2-0. Taylor led in kills with 26 while Zeman led in bomb plants and assists with 8 each.
The Tier 3 team, made up of Braylon Zeman (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS), Justin Kozelka (Munson, Ohio/Ohio Virtual Academy, Gilbert Chambers (Collins, Ohio/Edison), Cadence Buckles (Elyria, Ohio/LCCC Early College), and Rashad Reed (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS), won 2-0 in their match against North East Iowa Community College. They improve to 1-1 on the season.
Kozelka led his team in kills with 53. Chambers led in assists with 13 and Cadence Buckles led in bomb plants with eight.
Also in Tier 3, the "Late Night Crew" Valorant squad, made up of players from both Tier 1 and Tier 3 squads earned a 2-0 win against Iowa Central Community College. Taylor again led in kills with 47 and Misconish led in assists with 20.
