Commodores Get One Win In Tier 3 SSBU Crew Battle

March 7, 2024 - - The Lorain County Community College #CommodoreEsports team wrapped up the second week of Tier 3 play in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 3v3 Crew Battle on Friday, with the LCCC 1 squad securing their first win of the spring.

 

The Commodores had two teams in action Friday night: LCCC 1 and LCCC 2. LCCC 2, featuring Christopher Gonet (Lorain, Ohio/LCCC Early College), David LeBron Jr. (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS), and Josh Conde (Lorain, Ohio/LCCC Early College), entered the match fresh off a Week 1 victory against Lake Region State College. They appeared to be on their way to another win after claiming the first round of their best-of-three match against Marshalltown Community College, but Marshalltown rallied to take rounds two and three, securing the match victory.

 

Gonet led the LCCC 2 team with 11 of thier 24 knockouts while Conde and LeBron Jr. had eight and five knockouts respectively.

 

Meanwhile, LCCC 1—comprising Colby Cabrera (Amherst, Ohio/Marion L. Steele HS), James O'Reilly (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS), Jason Thomas (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS), and Yaniel Collazo (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS)—was eager to bounce back after a tough Week 1 loss to Lackawanna College. Facing Danville Community College, LCCC 1 edged out a 9-8 victory in the first round before Danville responded with a 9-8 win in the second. However, the Commodores regrouped and clinched the final round, earning their first win of the spring.

 

Cabrera led the way with 11 knockouts, while O'Reilly had seven, Thomas with five and Collazo having two.
