Commodores Run Winning Streak to 10 Games with 101-55 Romp over Southern State CC

The undefeated Lorain County Community College men's basketball team extended its season-opening winning streak to 10 games on Saturday afternoon, December 16 -- tying the school-record for consecutive wins -- with a 101-55 home court domination of a young Southern State CC squad.  Based on all the available information, the winning streak ties the school record set by the 1978-79 squad.

The Commodores featured six players scoring in double figures, led by the dynamic duo of sophomore guard Kevin Kelly (pictured) and freshman guard Oscar Dorsey, each with 21 points.  Remarkably, Kelly becomes the 10th different scoring leader in the team's 10 games to date. He tallied 15 of his points in the second half after Dorsey led all scorers in the first half with 14. Kelly also added 4 rebounds and 3 assists while Dorsey grabbed 6 boards, 2 steals and an assist.

LCCC shot 57.5% in the first half while steadily building the lead of 52-19 at the break.  The Commodores also dominated the boards with a huge 50-26 final rebound margin.

Sophomore forward Miles Meredith was outstanding with the game's only double-double.  He notched 10 points -- including several highlight-reel slam dunks -- and snatched a game-high 12 rebounds along with 3 steals, all in 15 minutes off the bench.

Sophomore forward Daniel Lott contributed 12 points, 4 steals and 1 assist.  Sophomore forward Mike Rell added 11 points, 4 assists and 2 steals.  Freshman guard Montez Day scored 10 points with 3 boards and 2 assists.

In all, LCCC came up with 18 steals after entering the game averaging 12.8 steals, ranking 6th in DIII.

"We were trying to improve our defense today," Assistant Coach John Keshock said (Head Coach Marty Eggleston was attending the college graduation of one of his daughters). "We know we have lots of players who can score; our success in future games will depend on our defense."

LCCC will take its 10-0 record to Philadelphia, PA, for games on Monday at Valley Forge Military College and Tuesday at No. 13-ranked (DIII) Community College of Philadelphia.
