Community Christian College Squeaks By Commodores, 99-94

November 14, 2024 - - The Lorain County Community College men's basketball team came up short in their comeback effort against the Community Christian College Lions Thursday night inside the Ewing Activities Center Gymnasium, falling 99-94.

It was another strong offensive showing for the Commodores but the timely defense wasn't there down the stretch.

Deonte Benejan (Queens, N.Y./Lorain HS) scored 36 points and had 11 rebounds to lead the Commodores and get his second double-double of the season.

Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Player of the Week Dennis Pettis Jr. (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) scored18 points with three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Miles Isabel (South Euclid, Ohio/Villa Angela-St. Joseph HS) scored 10.

Community Christian took a 16-point lead into halftime, but slowly the Commodores chipped away over the final ten minutes.  Pettis Jr. made two free throws with just over five minutes to play to cut the Lion lead to six and then made a lay-up after stealing the ensuing Lion inbound pass to cut the deficit to four.

Four minutes later, Julius Moon (Lorain, Ohio/Open Door Christian HS) scored with just over a minute left to get the Commodores to within a basket but that would be the last bucket by LCCC as Community Christian held on for the win.

LCCC is home this Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024, at 11 a.m. against Cuyahoga Community College.  General admission is $5.
