Men’s Basketball Falls To Lakeland Community College

December 7, 2024 - - Lorain County Community College men's basketball fell to Lakeland Community College on Saturday, 140-77.

 

Julius Moon (Lorain, Ohio/Open Door Christian HS) led the Commodores (1-10, 0-3) in scoring with 21 points thanks to his seven three-point baskets.  Moon hit a long distance jumper near the 10-minute mark of the first half to pull the Commodores to within four points, 20-16.

 

From there, it was all Lakers (5-3, 2-1) as they capitalized on the loss of LCCC top scorer Deonte Benejan (Queens, N.Y./Lorain HS) who went down with an injury in the first half.  Lakeland used a 21-5 run over a 4-minute span to take control of the game.

 

Dennis Pettis Jr. (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) scored 19 for LCCC and had game-highs of 12 rebounds and 7 assists.  Dejahn Smith (Cleveland, Ohio/Rhodes College) also scored in double figures with 10 points and nine rebounds including four steals. Toriano Goodwin (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) scored 10 points off the bench.

 

The Lakers were backed by the scoring of Devin Belle, who set a Lakeland school record with 50 points scored.

LCCC is on the road next week on December 11, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. against Cuyahoga Community College.
