January 8, 2025 - - The Lorain County Community College men's basketball team fell to Lakeland Community College, 148-93, in Kirtland, Ohio on Wednesday evening.
LCCC was led by Dennis Pettis Jr. (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS), who put up 28 points and grabbed 4 rebounds on 12-of-23 shooting. Pettis Jr. also had three assists, three blocks, and two steals. Deonte Benejan (Queens, N.Y./Lorain HS) also had a strong all-around performance, contributing 21 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and two steals.
Despite shooting 44.9% from the field, including 6-of-14 from three-point range, the Commodores couldn't keep up with Lakeland's relentless scoring from long range.
Julius Moon (Lorain, Ohio/Open Door Christian) had 10 points off the bench and Kayden Thomas (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) chipped in 8 points.
LCCC was efficient at the free-throw line, going 17-for-21 (81%).
