Commodores Come Up Short Against Terra State Despite Strong Second Half

January 22, 2025 - - The Lorain County Community College men's basketball team showed grit and determination but were unable to overcome a slow start, falling 91-79 to the Terra State Titans at the Ewing Activities Center Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

 

The Commodores (1-21, 1-8) struggled early, trailing 58-37 at halftime, but mounted a strong second-half comeback, outscoring the Titans 42-33. Despite narrowing the deficit down to 10 points from 27, Terra State (6-9, 4-6) held on for the win.

 

Deonte Benejan (Queens, N.Y./Lorain HS) led all scorers with 23 points, shooting a perfect 11-for-11 from the free-throw line and adding five rebounds and two steals.

 

Anthony Atkins (Cleveland, Ohio/Valley Forge HS) provided a spark off the bench with 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while Julius Moon (Lorain, Ohio/Open Door Christian HS) added nine points and seven rebounds.

 

On the boards, Kayden Thomas (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) recorded 10 rebounds, including key defensive efforts that helped the Commodores stabilize in the second half.

 

The Commodores excelled in the paint, outscoring Terra State 46-32 in this area. Their bench also provided a significant boost, contributing 38 points compared to Terra's 23. LCCC recorded 13 steals as a team and three blocks in their effort to stifle Terra State's attack.
