January 5, 2025 - - The Lorain County Community College women's basketball team secured a much-needed victory against the Community College of Allegheny County with a final score of 81-53. With the win, the Commodores improve to 5-9 and avenge their road loss to the Wildcats last November.
LCCC gradually took control with balanced scoring and strong defense, pulling away in the second half. Their largest lead of the game came in the final minutes when they led by 35.
Ally Winnen (Lorain, Ohio/Elyria Catholic HS) led with a double-double, recording 21 points (9-for-13 shooting), a game-high 21 rebounds, and seven assists. She also contributed defensively with two steals and three blocks.
Abigail Schmitz (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS) was pivotal, scoring 30 points (tying her season-high for the second time in three games) and hitting 6-of-12 from beyond the arc, setting another season-high.
Schmitz was supported by three other Commodores who excelled from long range, helping the team set a season-high with 13 three-pointers. Helayna Houston (LaGrange, Ohio/Keystone HS) and Chloe Meng (Elyria, Ohio/First Baptist Christian HS) each scored 11 points, while Allison Jones (Homerville, Ohio/Wadsworth HS) added 9 points and 6 rebounds. As a team, the Commodores shot 47.1% from the field and 39.4% from three-point range.

The Commodores will travel to Lakeland Community College on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, for a return to Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play. The game is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m. They defeated the Lakers on Dec. 7, 2024 at home, 75-66.
