Winnen Sets LCCC Single-Season Rebounding Record As Commodores Fall to Bryant & Stratton

February 5, 2025 – The Lorain County Community College women's basketball team put up a strong fight but ultimately fell 80-72 to Bryant & Stratton (OH) on Wednesday night on the campus of Ursuline College.

LCCC (9-14, 4-6) got off to a slow start, falling behind 9-0 early. Despite showing resilience with key scoring runs, Bryant & Stratton always had an answer, keeping the Commodores at bay. Despite their tough play, LCCC went into halftime trailing by nine.

A strong third-quarter surge, fueled by big shots from Ally Winnen (Lorain, Ohio/Elyria Catholic HS), Abigail Schmitz (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS), and Alexis Sheridan (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake HS), brought the Commodores within one point at the end of the third quarter.

Winnen gave LCCC its first lead at the 8:45 mark of the fourth quarter. However, late turnovers and a strong closing push by Bryant & Stratton allowed them to retake control down the stretch and secure the win.

Winnen had a dominant performance, breaking two LCCC records in the process. She led all scorers with 33 points and broke LCCC's single-season rebounding record in the third quarter when she surpassed Vanecia Billings' (2019-2022) mark of 343 with her 18th rebound of the night. She finished with a season-high 27 total rebounds while adding three assists, one block, and one steal. Her 16 offensive boards also broke her own record of 14, set back on November 1, 2024, in the season opener against Walsh University's JV team.

Schmitz battled through injuries to add 18 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.

Sheridan contributed nine points off the bench, shooting 4-for-7 from the field, while Allison Jones (Homerville, Ohio/Wadsworth HS) scored nine points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
