Commodores Volleyball Prepares for NJCAA Region XII Championship

October 26. 2016 - The Lady Commodores of Lorain CCC ended their regular season on Wednesday night as they took on the #2 ranked DII team in the country in Owens CC. In 3 sets, LCCC fell 25-17, 25-13, 25-19 and see their season record go to 16-14 and 5-9 in the OCCAC. LCCC will now switch their focus on Columbus State and their game Friday at 6:00pm.

"Columbus is going to be fun. We lost to them twice this season but the first match went 5 and although we lost the second match 3-0, we didn't have our full team so this time around it should be better" said Maryssa Kellick after her last home game as a Commodore.

After set 1 and set 2 didn't go LCCC's way falling 25-17 and 25-13, the Commodores were able to pick things up in their final set to find a little team chemistry headed into their big game Friday. In the first two sets, LCCC lost the kill battle -10 but in the final set they won in kills 13-7. Led by sophomore Maryssa Kellick, who had 12 kills and 4 total blocks, the Lady Commodores made some good things happen late. After going down big early in the final set, LCCC went on a big run to close the gap from 0-11 to 6-11. Towards the end of the set, LCCC was able to pull within 4 of Owens trailing 17-21.

Along with Kellick, Kara Keim chipped in with 9 kills while McKenzie Zauner had 12 digs and Shannon Reaser with 28 assist. Even with the strong play at the end, LCCC was unable to steal a set from the #2 team in DII and loss 25-19.

After playing in her final game, Kellick was in positive spirits knowing they have at least one more match to play before switching all her focus on her studies. "It went by fast and honestly it hasn't hit me yet. I'm just happy I came out and played; I had a blast. As for the end of the season, if we get past Columbus we head down to Maryland which is always fun so just looking at one match at a time."

Lorain CCC will travel to Columbus and look to win the Region XII Championship on Friday evening.
