
Commodores Shrug Off Sluggish Start to Dominate Lakeland
October 13, 2022 - - The Lorain County Community College volleyball team got their third sweep in four matches and their seventh sweep of the season with a win against the Lakeland Lakers (25-22, 25-16, 25-13). The win for the Commodores (10-5) is their seventh win in their last ten contests.
Despite LCCC hitting a blistering .417 as a team in the first set, they found themselves down 19-12 to the 2-17 Lakers but used a 13-5 rally to survive and dominated the match the rest of the way. They opened up the second set with a 10-point rally to put Lakeland in a deep hole, forcing them into two early timeouts.
Three players scored double digits kills for LCCC, who hit a collective .336 as a team and committed only 11 errors in the match. Chelsey Farris (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) had 17 kills, hit .615 for the match, and added three block kills. Abbey Williams (North Ridgeville, Ohio/First Baptist Christian) had 12 kills and hit .407, while MJ Blair (Lorain, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) had 10 kills with a .304 hitting percentage.
Jordan Benware (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake HS) led in assists for the Commodores with 25 and had four services aces. Benware also led LCCC in digs with 15, while Izabel Gallardo-Santo Domingo (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) and Brooklyn Ollis (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS) each had 11.
LCCC will play their only away game in October this Saturday in Hocking College against the 3-7 Hawks. The match begins at 11 a.m.
