
Commodores Outlast Edison Chargers On The Road; Improve to 4-1 in OCCAC
September 22, 2024 - - The Lorain County Community College women's volleyball team improved to 4-1 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference after a thrilling five-set victory against the Edison State Community College Chargers on Friday, September 20, 2024.
For the match, LCCC hit .222 and combined for 124 digs and 66 assists, both season highs. They improve to 5-5 overall on the season.

Recap:
The Commodores came out strong in the opening set, breezing to a 25-17 lead while hitting a match-best .297 and limiting themselves to 2 errors against 13 kills.
The Chargers came back strong in the next two games, winning 25-20 and nipping LCCC 25-23 in the third set.
The momentum keep rolling for Edison in the fourth set, building early 8-3 and 15-10 leads, but the gritty Commodores fought back. Nilaysia Todd got a service ace after LCCC took advantage of a few Edison miscues and then Ava Haddix's set over tied the game at 15. Haddix set up Gabriella Habeck on the next volley for a kill to put LCCC out front.
LCCC was in the driver's seat, leading 22-19, when the Chargers roared back with 5 straight points and put the Commodores on the ropes with match point. After an attack sailed too long for Edison, Habeck tied the set up at 24 and then gave LCCC the lead a minute later. The set ended with two attacks from Edison falling out of bounds and giving the Commodores a 28-26 win.
Edison got the first three points in the decisive set, but LCCC got back in it with an 8-2 run to take control of the match. After Edison tied it up at 11, Haddix set Isabella Beck up for two kills but the Chargers responded with three straight points for another chance at match point, 14-13, but their serve went long to open the door for the Commodores.
Both teams traded points until Habeck and Beck landed kills to take the match, 19-17.

The Commodores will return home to the Ewing Activities Center for a match up with the No. 3 ranked (NJCAA DIII) Owens Community College Express. LCCC lost to Owens in three sets back on September 4, 2024. Match begins at 6 p.m.
