Gabriella Habeck Becomes Third Commodore To Win OCCAC Volleyball Player of the Week

September 23, 2024 - - For the third week in a row, the winner of the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week Award is a Lorain County Community College Commodore.

Gabriella Habeck (Huron, Ohio/Edison HS) helped the Commodores gut out two conference victories last week against Lakeland Community College and Edison State Community College.

On September 18, 2024, she dished out 18 kills for the Commodores against the Lakers while having 11 digs.  Two days later on the road, she willed the Commodores to a five-set victory against the Chargers where she had 21 kills and 22 digs, both season-highs.

Habeck has been the go-to option offensively for the Commodores this season as she leads the team in total attacks (34) while fourth in the conference in attacks per set (9.9) and total kills (120). She is also fifth in the OCCAC in kills per set with 3.24.  In five out of the last six matches, the freshman has connected for 10+ kills.

She is the third different player from LCCC to receive the weekly laurel this season, and it is the fourth time in five weeks it has gone to an LCCC Commodore: Ava Haddix (Amherst, Ohio/Marion L. Steele HS), who won the award twice (Aug. 26 and Sept. 16), and Isabella Beck (Wellington, Ohio/Wellington HS) who won on September 2, 2024.

The Commodores are 5-5 overall and 4-1 in the OCCAC behind first place and NJCAA No. 3 ranked Owens Community College (14-4, 5-0).  Owens will visit LCCC this Wednesday, September 25, 2024 in a matchup of the conference's top teams.  The Express defeated the Commodores at home in three sets on September 4.

The match begins at 6 p.m. inside the Ewing Activities Center Gymnasium.  Admission is $5.
