Bio
As head coach of the Lorain County Community College women’s volleyball program, Ted Whitsel brings his experience as a coach, player, and official to the Lady Commodores. Whitsel has 20 seasons coaching high school volleyball (14 years as head coach at Brookside HS, 3 years as JV coach at Keystone HS, and 3 years as JV coach at Cleveland Heights HS), 18 years coaching JO volleyball (currently director of Northern Ohio Volleyball Club (NOH) which practices at LCCC), 28 years as a volleyball official at the high school, JO, and collegiate levels, and over 30 years playing indoors and outdoors around the area.
Whitsel (’84) attended Thiel College where he received a BA in chemistry. He then became a graduate assistant at the University of Hawaii before accepting a position at PPG in Cleveland with their automotive coatings division for 35 years before retiring. Before coming to Cleveland, Whitsel was born and raised in Huntingdon, PA where he attended high school and married his wife, Kelly. Kelly (’84) played volleyball and softball for Robert Morris College. The Whitsel’s have lived in Sheffield Lake for more than 36 years where both of their daughters, Kyleigh and Kady, attended Brookside HS and played volleyball.
