SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week for Dec. 8-14

Gabriel Beckstrom (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) has been named the Lorain County Community College SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 8-14, 2024.

Beckstrom excelled in the NJCAAE Tier 3 Playoffs for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 1v1 competition, winning four consecutive matches before falling in the semi-final round to Heartland Community College, the eventual Tier 3 champion. The semi-final match was a nail-biter, going the full five rounds, with Beckstrom rallying from a 2-0 deficit to force the decider.

Prior to the semi-finals, Beckstrom dominated his opponents with three consecutive 3-0 sweeps against Northwest College, the University of South Carolina Sumter, and Marshalltown Community College. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Rose State College 3-1, ending an impressive streak of 11 straight wins in round play.

In the third-place match, Beckstrom faced a different competitor from Rose State College in yet another thrilling five-round battle but ultimately came up short.
