SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week for April 13-19

Colby Cabrera (Amherst, Ohio/Mario L. Steele HS) is the Lorain County Community College SUBWAY MARKETPLACE Athlete of the Week for the week of April 13-19, 2025.

Cabrera, representing LCCC in the Tier 2 Super Smash Bros. Ultimate playoffs, showcased resilience and determination throughout the postseason. Entering the playoffs as the No. 2 seed, he opened with a hard-fought five-round win over Bates Technical College. After a second-round loss to Marshalltown Community College, he rebounded in the elimination bracket with a victory over another Marshalltown player, winning the match in four rounds after jumping ahead early.

On Friday, Cabrera continued his strong run, defeating Madison College 3-1 to advance once more. In the following round, he faced a tight battle against Hinds Community College, ultimately falling 3-2 in a narrow finish that marked the end of his impressive playoff journey. Cabrera concluded the tournament with a career-best Top 6 finish in Tier 2 competition.
