Commodores Strike First Against Triceratops In Game One But Lose Both Games Of Doubleheader

March 22, 2024 - -  The Lorain County Community College baseball team took the early lead in game one against Cuyahoga Community College but the Triceratops responded with four unanswered runs to pull ahead and the take the first game of the doubleheader, 9-3.  Tri-C blanked the Commodores in game two to earn the sweep, 11-0.

Game 1

Jaden Nestor-Fox (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) got the Commodores on the board with a run in the first inning after he singled and scored on Mason Shultz's (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) single two batters later.

Tri-C held LCCC hitless in the second and third innings until Kian Ortiz (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) singled in the fourth to end the drought. Joey Mealey (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) doubled in the next at bat to drive home Ortiz and the Commodores cut the deficit in half, 4-2. 

The Commodores got another run in the fifth when Yaniel Valentin (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) scored after he got aboard on a hit by a pitch.  Shultz doubled him home to score LCCC's third and final run of the game.  

ReDon (TJ) Jones III (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/Cornerstone Christian HS) pitched the whole game for LCCC and struck out three batters.

Game 2

LCCC got down seven runs in the first two innings and never threatened as they only managed two hits in game two against the Triceratops.  Valentin pitched four innings for LCCC with one strikeout.

  • Jaden Nestor-Fox reached base in both games to continue his on-base streak to 10
  • Mason Shultz had his third multi-hit game of the season
  • Kian Ortiz had his first multi-hit game of the season and of his career
