LCCC Baseball Picks Up Win Vs. Terra State Saturday At Vickery’s “Field Of Dreams”

April 20, 2024 - - The Lorain County Community College baseball team went 1-3 over the weekend vs. Terra State Community College.  LCCC avoided the sweep on Saturday afternoon at Bob Gray's "Field of Dreams" Park in Vickery, Ohio, defeating Terra 10-5 in the series finale.

On Friday, LCCC lost both games of a doubleheader to the Titans where they were held to just six hits.

Saturday's doubleheader was a little closer as LCCC trailed Terra by one after five innings until the Titans hitters finally got to starter Silas Skvor (Oberlin, Ohio/Firelands HS) and extended their lead to nine runs. Skvor finished with three strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched.

LCCC had cut the Titans lead to one run in the third inning when Mason Shultz (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) doubled home Jaden Nestor-Fox (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) and Hunter Cahl (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) scored on a wild pitch.

In game two, Nestor-Fox went 3-for-4 with two RBI, a walk, and a run scored as he helped the Commodores tie up the game in the bottom of the first.  He drove in Yaniel Valentine (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) in the second inning with a single and then did it again in the following inning when he singled home Joseph Mealey (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) to increase LCCC's edge, 6-4.

The Commodores padded their lead in the fourth with four more runs as they batted around the lineup. Kian Ortiz (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS), Matt Roesel (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS), Joey Kulwicki (Grafton, Ohio/Midview HS), and Mealey all scored to give starting pitcher Caleb Shinsky (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) plenty of cushion to pitch his second career complete game win.  He would finish with six strikeouts in seven innings.
