Commodores Wrangle Westmoreland Wolfpack For Second Win Of the Season

November 21, 2023 - - The Lorain County Community College men's basketball team defeated the Westmoreland County Community College Wolfpack Tuesday night to get their second win of the season, 93-61.  The win snaps a four-game losing streak for the Commodores.

Austin Copen (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS) – 15 points, 4 rebounds, 5-for-5 FT, 2 assists,

Patrick Russell (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Ignatius HS) – 14 points, 8-for-8 FT, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals

Jamair Blackmon (Akron, Ohio/Barberton HS) – 13 points, 3 assists

Jayden Maxwell (Chicago, Ill./Buchtel CLC) – 11 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals

Tiyorne Coleman (New York City, N.Y./Bunnell HS) – 2 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals

 

Recap

The Commodores broke away from the Wolfpack late in the first half to build a 23-point lead into the break.  Backed by the long range shooting of Willie Powell, Jr. who drained four 3-pointers in first 20 minutes, Jayden Maxwell who got the scoring going inside for LCCC with 11 points, and Patrick Russell who got it done at the line (6-for-6).  LCCC went into the locker room leading 47-23 at the half.

 

The Commodores didn't let off the gas as they continued to press on defense throughout the second half and take advantage of Westmoreland's rushed shooting. By the halfway point of the second half, the Commodores nursed a 30-point lead against the Wolfpack and went on to win 93-61.

 

Notes

•             The Commodores shot 43% from the field, their second best mark of the season

•             Maxwell got his first double-double of the season

•             Powell, Jr. had a career-high in 3PT made with five

•             The Commodores had 17 assists against 16 tournovers

•             Abdulaziz Sesay (Freetown, Sierra Leone, West Africa) tied a career-high in rebounds with seven

•             Five players scored in double-figures for the Commodores

 

Next Up

The Commodores will travel to Detroit, Mich. to take on the Community Christian College Lions.  LCCC split the season series last year losing at CCC on December 15, 2022 before coming home and defeating the Lions on January 29, 2023 inside the Ewing Activities Center Gymnasium.
