January 15, 2025 - - The Lorain County Community College men's basketball team displayed impressive offensive firepower in the second half but couldn't overcome Hocking College in a fast-paced matchup on Wednesday night at the Ewing Activities Center Gymnasium.
Despite the Commodores having six players score in double figures, they fell 129-100 to the visiting Hawks, who remain atop the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) standings.
Deonte Benejan (Queens, N.Y./Lorain HS) led the way for the Commodores with a game-high 32 points. Benejan shot 8-for-19 from the field, including 3-for-6 from beyond the arc, and was nearly automatic at the free-throw line, converting 13-of-15 attempts.
Anthony Atkins (Cleveland, Ohio) delivered a solid all-around performance, contributing 12 points on 4-for-6 shooting, including 2-for-4 from three-point range. Atkins also added five rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
Vinny Fisher (Akron, Ohio/CVCA), starting his third consecutive game for the Commodores, scored 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting, including one three-pointer. Fisher also tied for the team lead in assists with four.
Off the bench, Rashaud Finley (Cleveland, Ohio/Bard HS) brought energy, scoring 14 points and grabbing six rebounds in just 15 minutes of play. Julius Moon (Lorain, Ohio/Open Door Christian HS) also made an impact off the bench, scoring 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting, including 2-for-4 from three-point range.
After trailing by a large margin at halftime, the Commodores' offense surged in the second half, putting up 63 points while shooting an efficient 55.0% from the field and from three-point range.

The Commodores return to action on Sunday, hosting Kent State Tuscarawas at the Ewing Activities Center Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 PM.
