Commodores Fall To Kent State Tuscarawas In Final Non-Conference Match Up

January 19, 2025 - - The Lorain County Community College men's basketball team displayed resilience but ultimately fell 108-77 to a hot-shooting Kent State-Tuscarawas squad on Saturday afternoon at the Ewing Activities Center Gymnasium.

 

Despite the loss, LCCC (1-20) had strong individual performances and showed improved offense in the second half. Sophomore Deonte Benejan (Queens, N.Y./Lorain HS) led the way for the Commodores, scoring a game-high 31 points on 11-of-23 shooting, including three 3-pointers. He tallied 19 of those points in the first half.

 

Kayden Thomas (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) anchored the Commodores in the paint with a game-high 13 rebounds, including three on the offensive end. Toriano Goodwin (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) provided a spark off the bench, contributing 11 points and six rebounds.

 

Rashaud Finley (Cleveland, Ohio/Bard HS) also reached double figures with 10 points and added three assists.

 

LCCC started slowly, shooting just 36.6% in the first half, while Kent State-Tuscarawas (9-10) hit seven of their first eight shots to build an early 15-point lead. The Golden Eagles extended their advantage to 61-37 by halftime, capitalizing on their size and accuracy. They outscored LCCC in points in the paint (50-34) and converted 46.4% of their three-point attempts.

The Commodores will return to action in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play, hosting the Terra State Titans on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 7:30 p.m.
