Abbey Schmitz Drops 25 In Commodores Lopsided Victory vs. Kent State Tuscarawas

November 2, 2024 - - The Lorain County Community College women's basketball team picked up their second win in as many days with a dominant rout of Kent State Tuscarawas, 70-28.

Abbey Schmitz scored 25 points going 10-for-18 from the field with four buckets coming from long range. The Amherst native also had five rebounds and four steals.  She was the only player to score in double figures but the Commodore offense didn't need much scoring when they were holding Tuscarawas to 21% shooting and forcing 23 turnovers with 13 steals.

Saturday capped off a successful debut for Schmitz as she scored 21 in the season opener the previous night against Walsh University's JV squad.

Ally Winnen, fresh off her record-breaking debut (broke the offensive rebounding record with 16) against Walsh on Friday, had another dominant performance on the boards with 13 while chipping in eight points.  LCCC outrebounded the Golden Eagles, 45-37.

LCCC took a 32-15 lead into the locker room at halftime and then erupted for 26 points in the third quarter against Tuscarawas' eight. LCCC never let the Golden Eagles score more than eight in each quarter and cemented their win by holding them to five points over the final 10 minutes.
