Dayton & Piqua, Ohio - In a long weekend in Southwest Ohio, the Lady Commodores of LCCC fell in back to back conference games losing to Sinclair CC and Edison CC. On Friday, LCCC fell to previously ranked Sinclair in 3 sets 25-22, 26-16, 25-20. On Saturday LCCC fell in 3 again, losing 25-16, 25-15, 26-24; with this LCCC has a season record of 14-11 and 3-6 in the conference.
"We played well against Sinclair. They're the second best team in the conference so the goal is to play our best against them" said Coach Whitsel following the game.
The final score didn't indicate how close each set was as the Lady Commodores gave Sinclair everything they had. In the first set, LCCC fell by a final score of 25-22 but they were able to keep things close the majority of the game. The Lady Commodores received strong play from Lindsay Eisbrenner (16 digs), Shannon Reaser (27 assist), Maryssa Kellick (15 kills), and Ali Stanziano (2.3 serve/receive).
After falling in the second set 25-16, Coach Whitsel was proud of his team for not quitting and keeping their energy up the remainder of the match. "We played well pretty much the entire match but we just couldn't finish things. That seems to be one of our problems, finishing, but overall we played well. With the third set going down to the wire, LCCC tried their hardest to keep up and that's exactly what they did. Compared to Sinclair's 32 kills, LCCC matched them with 32 and in digs LCCC was +12. Even with things close, LCCC came up short falling 25-20.
On the following day, the Lady Commodores faced Edison with high hopes of beating them again like they did back on September 30th. Things didn't go exactly that way as LCCC fell 3-0. "We just played flat against Edison CC. We couldn't finish and honestly it was quite disappointing."
In the first two sets, LCCC struggled to keep up with the Edison pace, falling 25-16 and 25-15. The Lady Commodores came up short in kills (33-30), +1 in assist, and fell in digs (62-45). On the bright side, Kelli Warren had .167% in flex kills which is one of the highest so far this season for the Lady Commodores. Along with Warren, Reaser chipped in 25 assist and McKenzie Zauner with 9 digs.
The best set for LCCC was the third set where the team finally started to click and took the 24-18 lead late but fell into a slump. Not able to close out, Edison went on an 8-0 run to take the set and the match 26-24.
